Designers, models, celebrities. Oh my! Last night the red carpet was filled with fashion elite for the annual Met Gala hosted by Vogue Editor-in-Chief Anna Wintour. I was in awe of the gowns I saw throughout the night. I kept checking my phone for updates on the red carpet arrivals! I was just so excited!!
For some, the Met Gala is a chance to go a little crazy or more avant-garde than they normally would. By going for the more couture ensembles, some end up pushing the boundaries a little too far. But I was pleasantly surprised by the choices the attendees made! I had a lot of favorites, so I apologize in advance for the lengthy post!
P.S. I heard quite a bit of talk about Sarah Jessica Parker’s Oscar de la Renta dress!! A lot of people seemed to like it! I, for one, did not! I didn’t like her hair or her makeup. The hair was too much and the makeup was too heavy! Sorry to anyone who liked her look, but I just wasn’t feeling it!
Zoe Saldana in Michael Kors with the designer. I love the halter top of this dress and the full skirt. It does get a little weird with the bubble proportions, but I think Zoe looks gorgeous!
Stacy Martin in custom Miu Miu. This ensemble is relatively simple, but it still pushes the boundaries with the color combination. Light blue and red aren’t a combo we see very often, but I really liked the look. I also liked how Stacy accessorized with the turquoise earrings and red purse. It looks elegant without being too matchy matchy.
Naomi Watts in Givenchy Haute Couture. This was one of my favorite gowns! I am in love with the cascade from light to dark. It gives the dress a gothic, yet ethereal look. It is absolutely stunning!
Nicole Richie in Donna Karan Atelier. This was another of my favorites! I think Nicole’s purple hair makes anything look edgy and more fashion forward, but she looked especially stylish last night. I love the patches of silver velvet throughout the dress. The design is unique and the silver hue goes perfectly with her hair.
Amber Heard in Giambattista Valli Haute Couture with Johnny Depp. I love the intricate detailing and how it is more form-fitting. As for Johnny…I’m just going to keep my mouth shut.
Anne Hathaway in Calvin Klein Collection with Francisco Costa. This look has Calvin Klein written all over it. It has a sleek silhouette and is a very simple yet classic design. I also like that it shows a little bit of skin.
Arizona Muse in Ralph & Russo. I’m not usually fond of big skirts, but there was something about that dress that I was drawn to. I like how it cinches in on the waist and then billows out. It makes Arizona look super slim up top and I think the dress looks beautiful on her!
Blake Lively in Gucci Premiére with Ryan Reynolds. These two are just adorable. Blake is always stunning, but I loved how she went with an old Hollywood glamour look last night. Ryan’s suit is also amazing. It looks like it may be velvet, which I love!! They’re just one smokin’ couple!
Brie Larson in custom Prada. She was one of the few to not wear a dress last night and I loved the ensemble. It’s kind of out there and a little different, but I thought it was beautiful. The colors look great together and I am really into her hair as well! Kudos to you Brie!
Christy Turlington Burns in Calvin Klein Collection with Ed Burns. I just love Christy. She has aged beautifully. Again, it is a simple and sleek design, but I love it! The polka-dot print is not overwhelming and she looks sophisticated and chic!
Dree Hemingway in Proenza Schouler. I love the color of this dress! I’m not sure if you’d call it peach or if it’s more of a nude color, but I am in love with it! I also like the plunging neckline and ankle-length hem! It’s just gorgeous! Another favorite for sure!!
Emma Stone in Thakoon with Thankoon Panichgul. Oh Emma. You never cease to amaze me!! This is gorgeous! I’m not usually into pink, but I really like how she paired two different shades together. Her hair is also amazing and so efforless! A+ Emma!
Emmy Rossum in Carolina Herrera. Now I have a feeling many won’t agree with me on this, but that’s okay. I liked this dress because it was a breath of fresh air on the red carpet. It was more light and fun and flirty. I like the floral print and the colors! Emmy went in a different direction and she looks gorgeous!
Gisele Bündchen in custom Balenciage with Tom Brady. Is it possible for this woman to ever look bad?! I don’t even know if I was that in love with her dress, but I just thought she was so beautiful that she had to be on my best-dressed list! The dress shows off her enviable figure and I love the pop of green in her earrings!
Karolina Kurkova in Marchesa. This dress made my heart skip a beat! Like seriously. I’m not kidding! There aren’t many people who could pull this off, but she looks like a true supermodel. The dress is so intricate and structured. It’s truly a masterpiece — all Marchesa pieces are!
Kate Mara in Valentino Haute Couture. The color seems kind of blah at first. It’s like an olive green or dirty brown color, yet Kate made it look beautiful. I think the color pairs well with her blonde hair too!
Leighton Meester in Emilio Pucci with Peter Dundas. This look is a long way from Blair Waldorf! It’s much more bohemian and laid-back. That’s why I loved it. The dress is more loose, but Leighton doesn’t look like she’s wearing a sack either. I also love the embellishments!
Lily Donaldson in Burberry. She’s got some major side boob going on here!! This dress is stunning! It’s so simple, but it’s also got that bombshell look to it as well! Another favorite!!
Lily Aldridge in Michael Kors. This dress is very metallic. It’s almost like a disco ball. I love the design, but I’m not so sure about the fabric. However, I love Lily and think she always looks amazing so she made my best-dressed list!
Lupita Nyong’o in custom Prada. I know some were critical of this look, but I really like it! It’s daring. It’s risky. It’s Lupita! She looks so happy and that’s what matters. Few people could pull this off, but Lupita has the confidence to work it!
Michelle Williams in Louis Vuitton. Short and simple. Michelle looks slightly mod with a modern twist. I think she could have picked something slightly fancier for the occasion, but I still like the dress. And I love her hair!!
Rosie Huntington-Whiteley in Balmain with Olivier Rousteing. I could tell this was Balmain right off the bat. The dress had that rocker edge and prominent shoulders! I’m not really into animal prints because I think they tend to look tacky, but I like the way it is incorporated into this dress. It’s not overwhelming. The shoes are killer too!
Sarah Paulson in custom Prada. Okay, so I love the dress…but I don’t love it on her. I think her hair and makeup are bad. She looks older than she really is. However, I do really like the dress. I love the emerald color and the embellishments on the skirt and shoulders. I also like the ankle-length hem!! Right dress. Wrong girl.
Shailene Woodley in Rodarte. This gown is so interesting. At the top it looks like one thing and then you get to the bottom and it’s completely different. I just love the mix of prints and textures!!
Sofia Coppola in Unknown. I want this dress!! I love how it’s sheer up top and down below. I love the hem and the light and airy feeling!! Sofia could have been a bit riskier, but I love the dress regardless!
Suki Waterhouse in Burberry. One word. Stunning. I love the layers on the skirt and how it gets fuller at the bottom. I love the blush tone! Great look!!
Zoë Kravitz in custom Topshop. Zoë always stays true to herself and her sense of style. The dress has that edgy feel to it and she has that “I don’t give a f@#$” attitude. I actually like her blonde hair and blunt bangs too. It adds to the whole look!
