On Saturday my boyfriend and I got up at 12:30 a.m. Why you may ask did we get up so early? Well, we decided we wanted to see the sun rise at the top of Old Rag Mountain. We had done the 9-mile circuit hike a few times before, but during the day — never when it was pitch black out. We went with a few of our friends, braved the cold and darkness and ultimately made it to the top. It was quite chilly and windy up there, but it was really magical watching the sun rise.

The hike was hard and I am so sore today, but the sore muscles are totally worth it. We had the whole mountain to ourselves (besides two guys who were up there for about 10 minutes).

This weekend has been absolutely beautiful and my mom came into visit so we had to make our way into DC for the cherry blossoms. Well I have to say that although the cherry blossoms are beautiful, I will never ever go in during the peak bloom weekend. Not only was it peak bloom, but it was also the first nice weekend in a long time so everyone and their mother was in DC and it was ridiculous. The metro was packed. There were lines to get to the escalator to get to the metro and there were just people everywhere.

I still managed to get a few pictures with the blossoms, but not nearly as many as I would have liked. Regardless, I had a good day. We ended it with a trip to Clarendon to get some of Pete’s New Haven Style Pizza (I had one with caramelized onions and mushrooms). We also got a fried goat cheese salad and man was that on point!! So delicious. You can never go wrong with goat cheese!! I also got a few things from Free People and my first fedora from South Moon Under. Keep your eyes peeled for a post with the hat. I’m pretty excited about it!

My mom and I went to the Hershey Gardens today for Mother’s Day. All mothers get in for free today!! I also made her breakfast in bed this morning (You don’t have to tell me. I know I’m a great daughter). There were rows upon rows of tulips in every color. Some were even “fringed.” They were my favorites! I decided that I’d wear some floral prints since we were going to be surrounded by such beautiful flowers! I found my floral jacket two days ago at Salvation Army. I hadn’t been there in months so I was in heaven. I searched through the racks for almost an hour and came home with some really nice new pieces. It can be hit or miss at thrift stores, but this past visit was definitely a success.

I hope you all are showering your mothers with love today and having a great weekend!!

Today was a beautiful day, which meant…ZOO!! I never get tired of visiting zoos and the National Zoo is great because it’s free! I have been an animal lover my entire life and I am particularly fond of the more unique animals including okapis and tapirs (If you’re not familiar with these animals, you should look them up!). My love of animals is what led me to become a vegetarian more than four years ago. Honestly, I don’t even miss meat or fish! There are so many great fake meats out there and more places are offering meat-free items in their restaurants making it relatively easy to be a vegetarian nowadays. Now, back to the zoo! I saw the lions, cheetahs, tigers, monkeys and many more today! As usual, there were a few animals, including the Spectacled bear, that chose not to turn around so the only shots I got were butt shots. Also, the orangutan began climbing his large jungle-gym and decided he needed to take a poo at the very top. Luckily, I don’t think his #2 landed on anybody!

I chose to wear my light underwater jacket today because I thought it’d be fitting! I actually had quite a few options when it came to animal apparel! I just have a soft spot for anything animal related! (I still own numerous stuffed animals too..I even have a stuffed okapi and tapir.)
