I’ve been working at DeNada for a couple of months now so I thought it was time to let you all in on what goes on behind the scenes . Each day is a little bit different depending on whether I need to pack up online orders, quality check items for an event or prepare knits for a wholesale order. There’s always so much to do, which at times can get a bit overwhelming, but it keeps me on my toes. Oh and I’ve learned how to sew! Just a little bit though. I’m nowhere near ready to start making my own clothing, but maybe someday…
I also get to run our showroom appointments which is actually one of my favorite parts. I have to admit, I was a bit nervous when I gave the first one by myself but afterwards I was ready to do it all over again! And I mean look at the showroom! Instagram-worthy, right?!
Here are some of my favorite pieces from the new 2015 collection:
For all of you Reformation super-fans out there (I am one myself) I’m here to introduce you to your new favorite brand — CHRISTY DAWN.
In the process of checking the Reformation Instagram feed (as I do multiple times each day) I stumbled upon the feed of Reformation model Christy Dawn Petersen which then led me to CHRISTY DAWN, the dream child of Petersen. Launched at the tail end of 2013, CHRISTY DAWN features three of my favorite things: gauzy gowns, floral prints and lace. If that’s not enough to get you intrigued, just wait — there’s more…
Each CHRISTY DAWN dress is vintage-inspired and made in small batches, making each one that much more special. Sometimes there may be 24 made, sometimes there may only be three. So if you see something you like, you’d better get on it and make a purchase, otherwise you’ll be left praying that someone makes a return!!
I’d love to own literally every single CHRISY DAWN dress, but my wallet will simply not allow it. But I do have one CHRISTY DAWN dress — the Lincoln in pink floral (pictured at the top of this post). This was a big purchase for me as the dress was $197 plus tax. I had been lusting after it ever since I saw Petersen post the “coming soon” image on Instagram. I eagerly awaited the day that it came out on their website and once it did, I began checking back every single day to make sure it was still available. As long as it was still there, I knew I still had a chance of getting it, but at the rate the other Lincoln dresses sold out, I wasn’t holding my breath. I kept dreading the day that I’d wake up and see the dress say 0/12 (meaning they were all gone). Luckily, I never had to see that day because I got the last one! I woke up one morning and saw that there was only one Lincoln left. That’s when I went into panic mode! I knew that I should save my money (I mean I’m a college student after all). But I also knew that if I let this dress sell out, I would never get the chance to bask in its beauty. So what did I do you ask? I did what any normal shopaholic would do — I took my phone and my wallet into my closet and bought the dress. Why the closet? That way my boyfriend didn’t know what I was doing!! Gahhhh, I know that sounds so bad. It’s like a page out of a Sophie Kinsella novel. Crazy or not, I got my dress and believe me when I tell you it was well worth the money. Even the packaging is gorgeous!! Each order comes in a wooden DAWN-engraved box with a small bundle of lavender. Does it get any better than that?!
…it does! All CHRISTY DAWN garments are made by local artisans from deadstock fabrics. I’m always a fan of eco-friendly fashion, especially when it looks like this!
Let me just say, I’d love to be a part of the CHRISTY DAWN family too. Not only is Petersen a gorgeous model, but she has the most beautiful little boy and is engaged to Survivor alum Aras Baskauskas. She also has a seemingly endless number of model friends who partake in the CHRISTY DAWN lookbook shoots and “Friends of Dawn” stories (hello Leah Jenner, Langley Fox, Ally Walsh and Elaina Bellis)!! Not to mention all of her photographer friends! Ahh, the benefits of being a model.
If I haven’t convinced you that CHRISTY DAWN is your new favorite brand, just check out Taylor Swift’s music video for “Style,” and you’ll see her sporting the Fitzgerald dress (she’s wearing it backwards, but hey it works both ways)! Also check out these shots from the CHRISTY DAWN lookbooks, Instagram feed and “Friends” stories! Can I go on the next lookbook roadtrip Christy?! Haha
Olivia Palermo…or should I say Olivia Huebl…has been one of my style inspirations ever since her days on MTV’s The City. She just knows how to put an outfit together. She also doesn’t seem to shy away from any style or trend. That may just be the reason I admire her so much. Olivia doesn’t put herself in a box when it comes to style. She seems to be open to anything. And that anything includes a three-piece wedding ensemble!! Check it out!
Olivia married longtime boyfriend and model Johannes Huebl on June 29 in Bedford, N.Y. Obviously she styled herself (I mean the girl needs no help!) Instead of a traditional gown, Olivia opted to wear a cashmere sweater with scattered ostrich feathers, white shorts and a tulle skirt all by Carolina Herrera. And for the shoes, she went with blue Manolo Blahniks! Apparently, they were the same Manolos that Carrie Bradshaw wore when she married Big at the courthouse!! Way to pay tribute to such an iconic character!!! I can’t say I was surprised that Olivia made such unique choice of wedding attire. She seems like a risk taker and this risk — if you even want to call it that — definitely paid off! She looks stunning and so effortlessly gorgeous! This is such a great way for anyone on a budget to dress for their big day as well. While her attire was far from cheap, anyone looking for an alternative to the wedding dress could easily sport a white sweater, shorts and sheer overlay skirt that would look just as elegant! It seems that this was just the beginning for the couple. Wedding #2 is on the way!!! And I cannot wait to see what Olivia wears for that ceremony. I have a feeling she’ll be wearing a more traditional dress, but Olivia will definitely make it all her own! She always does!!
I may be about four seasons behind and a couple thousand dollars short, but that doesn’t stop me from gawking over Chanel’s Spring 2014 collection — especially the rainbow paint-palette-printed dresses (how’s that for alliteration!) In one of my previous posts I explained my fondness of rainbows, but just to reiterate, I love, love, LOVE rainbows!! Ever since I was a little kid, I would draw rainbows day in and day out and I couldn’t get enough of my rainbow unicorn necklace! I even wore it with a denim Rainforest Cafe shirt for picture day. (I was super stylish back in the day! Haha) When it comes to my clothing, I’m not one to wear a lot of bright colors on a daily basis, but when I see something like these Chanel gowns, crop tops and skirts I just go insane!! Not a crazy insane, but a fashion insane where my heart skips a beat and I can’t stop thinking about them. I mean, I have a picture of Rita Ora in the one-shoulder Chanel gown as the wallpaper for my phone!! Seeing that picture every day just makes me happy! It inspires me and brings me so much joy!! I know that probably sounds weird, but I don’t care!! While I do wear a lot of neutrals, it’s clothing like this, featuring every color and hue, that makes me change my ways!! If I had $10,000 to spare, I’d rip these babies right from the runway!! Unfortunately, I don’t have the money to afford these high-end Chanel garments, but I can still dream can’t I?
