I realize I’m a little behind on this whole Oscars best dressed thing, but better late than never right? I wasn’t as impressed with the red carpet as I had hoped to be. There were so many disappointing looks, like Amy Poehler, Jennifer Garner and Kate Winslet. I wasn’t even as fond of Brie Larson’s blue gown. While I did love the color, I didn’t like the ruffles flowing down the skirt. That just killed it for me.
But there were some dresses that didn’t disappoint. I’ve included those looks below along with my favorites from the Vanity Fair Oscar Party as well (so you may see a few people twice.) Enjoy!
Lady Gaga in Brandon Maxwell. I have always admired Lady Gaga’s risk taking when it comes to fashion, but I have really enjoyed her more toned down sense of style lately. No meat dresses here! I really loved that she opted for a jumpsuit and that she supported her friend and new designer Brandon by wearing his look on the red carpet. Love you Gaga!
Alicia Vikander in Louis Vuitton. She is the Lupita Nyong’o of the 2016 award season. She can do no wrong! She may always be sporting Louis Vuitton, but the dresses are all so different. This color looked great on her, but she’s so gorgeous that I can’t imagine her ever looking bad.
Cate Blanchett in Armani Privè. I’m in love with this woman. First of all she’s stunning. Second of all she has a great fashion sense and can pull off anything and everything. I loved this dress. It was one of my favorites from the night!
Chrissy Teigen in Marchesa. Pregnancy looks good on you Chrissy. I loved everything about this look, from the hair to the nails. She is one hot mama!
Naomi Watts in Armani Privè. This dress was such a pretty color and it really popped on the red carpet. I loved the ombrè bodice and the sleek silhouette.
Margot Robbie in Tom Ford. I really love when someone opts for sleeves. While this gown didn’t show as much skin, it was still sexy because of the deep V in the front. With her blonde locks, Margot was a gold goddess!
Saoirse Ronan in Calvin Klein. This dress followed the typical Calvin Klein formula — sleek and simple. But the color and sparkle made it noteworthy. The deep green looked great on Saoirse’s pale skin.
Rooney Mara in Givenchy. This dress looked way better on the TV than it does in this picture. I loved the lacy look of the material and the diamond shaped cutout in the middle. I wasn’t a fan of the severe hair, but the dress made up for it!
Rachel McAdams in August Getty Atelier. This dress was very simple, but I like the minimal look and Rachel looked stunning in this color. And I’m a sucker for silky materials!
Olivia Munn in Stella McCartney. Damn this girl has gotten fit. Not that she wasn’t before, but she is looking even better now. This dress was a breath of fresh air on the red carpet. The color was so bright and unexpected and I loved the one shoulder detail. So elegant!
Sara Sampaio in Zuhair Murad. When you’ve got a body this killer, why not show it off! While the dress shows a lot of skin, it still looks classy. Love!
Rachel McAdams in Naeem Khan. She went with another simple shape, but opted for a lighter color and some sparkle. I loved it! I hated the shoes (they just look cheap to me), but I was able to look past them so she made the cut yet again.
Kate Bosworth in Ralph and Russo. This Kate reminds me of the other Cate (Blanchett that is.) She has the rare ability to pull off nearly everything. They kind of look alike too don’t they? I loved the greyish blue color and the large floral details at the neckline. I’m not sure if I could pull this off, but she sure did!
Gwen Stefani in Yanina Couture with Blake Shelton. I was in love with this dress! It was one of my absolute favorites from the Vanity Fair party. I truly admire how Gwen can flawlessly shift from her punky street style to full on glam. Luckily for her the carpet wasn’t red; the dark carpet made her dress absolutely pop.
Emma Roberts in Yanina Couture. I realize this could look like a bunch of large spiders crawling up the dress, but for some reason I really liked this. And Emma’s hair and makeup is just flawless too!
Alicia Vikander in Louis Vuitton. Another Louis, another win, another favorite. What more can I say? This girl is perfect.
Diane Kruger in Reem Acra. You really need a killer body to pull this gown off. Luckily Diane has one. I loved the color and the fringe. It was such a unique gown!
Brie Larson in Monse. Man I am a sucker for velvet! I loved the color and the neckline of this gown. I would wear this dress in a heartbeat!

I didn’t get to watch the red carpet live last night because I went to see 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi (which by the way is a great movie) with my fiance, but I was checking out the fashions on my phone!
While there were several who really stole the show, overall I wasn’t super impressed with what I saw. For example, Julianne Moore always looks great, but last night that green Givenchy gown just didn’t do it for me. And Eva Longoria just looked like she was trying too hard. As for Sofia Vergara, well she looked gorgeous as per usual, I just wasn’t feeling the bright pink hue of her gown.
There were still some gowns (and a jumpsuit) that I loved. Check them out below…
Alicia Vikander in Louis Vuitton. This girl always looks stunning, but she killed it last night. I’m not usually a fan of sparkle and sequins, but this gown was so elegant. I loved the color blocking and I also loved Alicia’s sleek hairstyle. My favorite of the night!
Brie Larson in Versace. This is one of those times where if it weren’t for the whole look (hair, makeup, jewelry) I probably would have left it off my list. However, I thought Brie looked stunning. Not everyone could pull a dress like this off, and she picked it literally hours before the red carpet! Amazing.
Kristen Wiig in Roland Mouret. I love a good jumpsuit and Kristen rocked this one. She looked so gorgeous and toned. Well done Kristen. Way to take a risk!
Kiernan Shipka in Erdem. I wish I was this stylish at 16! I loved the silhouette and the print on this gown. She looked so fresh and happy!
Claire Danes in Stella McCartney. Claire tends to go for sleek silhouettes, but when you know what works for you, go for it! This dress was simple, but sometimes less is more. I really loved it!
Sarah Paulson in Armani Prive. I’m sure some will think I’m crazy for including Sarah on my best dressed list, but I truly love when people take risks. She always goes for something unconventional and I love that. I actually liked the colors in this dress and the velvetty material. She made this look edgy and I think she pulled this dress off quite nicely.
Naomi Watts in Burberry. I loved this color on her porcelain skin and the floral applique throughout. I’m such a sucker for anything floral.
Lily Rabe in Lela Rose. This color is so hard to pull off, but I thought Lily looked stunning. I loved her loose waves and bright red lip. They really complemented the gown well!

I have to say that overall, I really enjoyed this red carpet. While the interviews always seem a bit awkward and rushed, the fashion is what does it for me.
I was quite pleased by the amount of color on the carpet this year. While I had some issues with the shape and silhouette of several gowns (ahem America Ferrera,) I was really pleased with the pops of red, green and yellow. Oh and did you all see Kate Hudson in pale pink?! Damn girl!!
The red carpet first timers always give me something to look forward to and man did they bring it! Brie Larson looked gorgeous in her custom Calvin Klein number and Alicia Vikander went fashion-forward in Louis Vuitton. Though my fiance thought it looked like an apron (that was actually the first thing he said when he saw it; “Is she wearing an apron?!”) Alicia can totally make an apron fashionable!
There was also quite a lot of shimmer and sparkle on the carpet — Uzo Aduba, Olivia Wilde, Kate Bosworth, Melissa McCarthy — and I’m not always a fan of the sequins, but some of these gowns actually made me take a second look (but I still didn’t put many in my best dressed list.)
One of the biggest disappointments of the night? Channing Tatum’s hair! Not a fan, but I’m just going to hope it looks like that for an upcoming movie role or something…
Brie Larson in Calvin Klein. I’m not always a huge fan of sparkles, but I absolutely adore Brie and she looked amazing in this dress. Look as those abs!! Her skin looked amazing and I loved the slicked back hair too. A+ in my book!
Jennifer Lawrence in Dior. I assumed she’d be in Dior, but I didn’t assume that I would love her dress as much as I did. I loved how the gown was layered and the color was killer and quite similar to the color she wore to the 2011 Oscars. But hey, when you know what works for you, go for it!
Kate Hudson in Michael Kors. One word, LOVE! She is always willing to take risks and when you have a body like she does why not show it off, right? I literally loved everything. The color, the neck piece. Everything!!
Julianne Moore in Tom Ford. This woman has been ruling the red carpet for quite some time and once again she killed it. I loved the cut out at the neckline and the color on her pale skin. I just hope I look half this good when I’m 55!
Sophia Bush in Narciso Rodriguez. I’ve loved Sophia since she played Brooke Davis on One Tree Hill and I’m still watching her in a completely different role as Erin Lindsay on Chicago PD. This girl is so beautiful inside and out and she looked like a classic beauty tonight. Simply stunning!
Rosie Huntington-Whiteley in Versace Atelier. God she looked gorgeous, but all models do…all the time. Everything from her hair to her skin to her dress are golden perfection! This is the type of gown I would love to wear because it’s fitting for the occasion, but also seems comfortable.
Alicia Vikander in Louis Vuitton. This girl has some style, but she’s also super pretty so I’m sure she could look good in anything, which includes this apron-inspired dress. I’m don’t think I could make this look nearly as good as she does. Alicia looked oh so beautiful and fresh-faced.
Jaimie Alexander in Genny. This dress looked way better on TV than it does in this picture. I feel like the angle of this photo makes the neckline look a little funky, but the dress looked absolutely gorgeous when I saw it live on E!. I loved the color on her skin and the addition of the emerald earrings!
Emmy Rossum in Armani Privé. This dress was quite simple, but oh so stunning. Though I’m not a huge diamond person, I really liked the necklace too. Without it, the whole ensemble would have seemed like it was missing something. And her red lip paired perfectly with the dress.
Melissa Benoist in Monique Lhuillier. She is just so naturally gorgeous and I loved that she kept it relatively simple with her gown. The silhouette was great for her body with the fitted bodice and looser skirt. Way to go Super Girl!
Jennifer Lopez in Giambattista Valli. I am in love with this shade of yellow and it looked great against Jen’s tan skin. I also really loved her hair in this look. It wasn’t so severe as it has been several times before on the red carpet. I liked the more subtle makeup look too.
Jenna Dewan Tatum in Zuhair Murad Couture. The silhouette of this gown was very similar to Jaimie Alexander’s dress, but the difference in color and addition of some sparkle made it completely its own. I thought the color looked great on her and she’s always so gorgeous so no matter what she wears she’d probably make my list.
Cate Blanchett in Givenchy. Not many people could pull this dress off, but Cate looked great, as per usual. I loved the old Hollywood glamour that this whole ensemble conveyed. I swear this woman only gets better with age!

I honestly get butterflies when I look through photos from the
Met Gala. There are just so many amazing gowns, so many beautiful models and so many talented actors and musicians in attendance. What’s not to love? Last night’s theme was China: Through the Looking Glass. I think some of the ensembles fit with the theme. Others, not so much. But regardless, there were plenty of standout looks! I’m sure by now most of you have seen pictures of Rihanna and Beyoncé (and if you haven’t you can see them below). They definitely stood out, but there were many others including Kate Hudson, Kendall Jenner and Gigi Hadid who made my best dressed list! Check them out!
Kate Hudson in Michael Kors. This was simply stunning. I loved everything from her hair to her makeup and of course I loved the gown. She looked absolutely gorgeous! This was probably my favorite of the night.
Kendall Jenner in Calvin Klein Collection. She looked like a model. Statuesque, minimal makeup and that model stare. I really liked the color of this gown and the little bit of sex appeal at the sides.
Lily Aldridge in Carolina Herrera. I love Lily so I don’t think she’d ever not be on my best dressed list, but I truly loved this gown. I loved the pale blue/gray color of the gown paired with the dark lip. Perfection. And did you guys see her fish clutch? Totally adorable!
Zoë Kravitz in Alexander Wang. I saw her on the E! worst dressed list, but I really liked this look. I thought it worked because Zoë is so bad ass and has a rocker chic style.
Rosie Huntington-Whiteley in Atelier Versace. This is a look that only a model could pull off. With the high slit and cutouts, I definitely don’t think I could pull it off, but Rosie looked gorgeous. I also liked that she kept her hair up because it would have taken away from the dress if it was down.
Rose Byrne in Calvin Klein Collection. I’m not sure if this was made from leather or not, but the material intrigued me. I loved her loose waves and the deep V of the gown. It was a gorgeous color on her!
Rihanna in Guo Pei. This was extravagant (just look at that train), but the Met Gala is extravagant so I thought it was fitting. I really liked the color and this was just so Rihanna. She demands attention.
Jessica Hart in Valentino. It can be hard to pull of a dress that covers everything — the arms, the legs, the neck — but Jessica has those model genes so she was able to work it! I also loved her kitty clutch!
Jaime King in Jason Wu for Hugo Boss. If it weren’t for the belly, you wouldn’t even know she’s pregnant. Although her dress was simple, I loved it and the color looked stunning on her. I liked that she matched her lip to the gown too.
Gigi Hadid in DVF. She rocked her first Met Gala, but who am I kidding. She rocks everything. Gigi is too beautiful to ever look bad, but I really did like her dress. I don’t usually see her in vibrant colors like this so it was a nice change! So gorgeous just like her momma!
Maggie Q in Tory Burch with Dylan McDermott. I don’t think you can truly appreciate her ensemble in this photo, but there weren’t many solo shots of her from last night. I loved that she opted for a non-dress with pants. It was a really unique look which is why I loved it!
Emma Roberts in Ralph Lauren Collection. This gown looked so luxe. I think it’s the material and perhaps the color. This type of material can be unforgiving, but Emma looked great and super toned.
Emily Ratajkowski in Topshop. There are two main reasons I liked this dress. 1) the embellished floral design and 2) she wasn’t showing too much skin — which she tends to do. It was a nice change from her usual curve-hugging cleavage-baring ensembles.
Elizabeth Banks in Michael Kors. For nearly any other occasion I probably would have hated this dress, but I really liked it on Elizabeth. I’m still not a huge fan of the color. I think the turquoise blue cheapens it a little, but Elizabeth’s body is killer in this dress and she is exuding confidence.
Dianna Agron in Tory Burch. I will admit, this was a little blah. But at the same time, I found myself liking it because of the cranes flying across the bottom of the dress. Dianna could have taken more of a risk, but I still liked the gown.
Diane Kruger in Chanel. This reminded me of her pant ensemble at the Vanity Fair Oscar Party. I liked the look then and I still love it now. She is always taking risks and I admire that! I also liked the loose up do. I thought it complimented her attire well.
Constance Jablonski in Theory. When you’re a model, you can get away with the simplest of outfits because everything just looks so amazing! I mean look at Constance! She is wearing all black and she’s not wearing heels, but she looks great. The outfit also looks super comfortable (and I’m sure some of those other gowns weren’t).
Carey Mulligan in Balenciage. This was another simple gown, but the embellished collar really did it for me! It added that oomph that was necessary to prevent this dress from being boring.
Beyoncé in Givenchy Haute Couture. One word: showstopper. She was the talk of the Met Gala along with Rihanna and for good reason. Look at this gown. Look at her body. Look at those shoes!! They had a tiny thin red heel that matched the carpet so it looked like she didn’t even have heels. This was truly amazing. Everything was on point including that ponytail. It made me want to sing “I whip my hair back and forth…”
Behati Prinsloo in Tommy Hilfiger. I think this dress was velvet and I am partial to velvet so I couldn’t resist adding her to my best dressed list. The cutouts seemed a little risky. I know i’d be worried that a nipple would pop out, but she was probably taped in place. I also like her cat eye makeup!
Alexa Chung in Erdem. The color of this gown was amazing. So pretty and it photographed really well. The only thing I would have changed was her hair. It looked too undone and didn’t seem formal enough for the dress or the occasion. But I loved everything else, including the shoes!

The White House Correspondents’ Dinner — where journalists, celebrities and politicians all come together. (I should have just gone into DC just to try and catch a glimpse of some of the attendees!) I wasn’t really impressed with the fashions from last night. There were a lot of so-so gowns and several that I felt were just totally wrong (cough cough
Ashley Judd). With so many models in attendance ( Chanel Iman, Adriana Lima, Irina Shayk) I really expected more.
However, I always manage to find quite a few favorites, including Jenna Dewan-Tatum, Pretty Little Liar Troian Bellisario and pregnant Anne V!
Take a look below for more of my best dressed!
Jenna Dewan-Tatum in Reem Acra. Jenna is always flawless and this dress was beautiful. I liked how the top folded over to show that extra bit of pizzazz! I just wish she had that extra bit of arm candy (i.e. Channing Tatum).
Chrissy Teigen in Zuhair Murad. Chrissy looking like a total babe as per usual. I loved the dark lip and her lightened locks. I think they complemented the gown well. She wears a lot of Zuhair Murad, but she looks great in his designs so as they say, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!
Anne Vyalitsyna in Altuzarra. Such a gorgeous mommy-to-be. You can’t even tell in this picture! Ahh to have those model genes. I loved the print on this gown and the halter neckline. Her skin was just glowing. I also have to give her props because early on in the night her dress ripped and she played it off like a champ by ripping the other side to match — check it out!
Gina Rodriguez in Gustavo Cadile. My beloved Gina. I loved this color on her. This dusty rose is one of my absolute favorite hues! And this dress hugged her in all the right places. She looks so genuinely happy all the time and that makes her even more beautiful in my eyes!!
Troian Bellisario in Unknown. I love Troian and I don’t see her out and about as much so I really loved seeing her at the Correspondents’ Dinner. The gown was beautiful and I liked the kind of Grecian vibe. Her hair was on point too. If only she would have smiled a bit in the photos.
Sophia Bush in Monique Lhuillier. I was loving this color on her last night! The draping was beautiful and she had the perfect accessories. I also liked that she put her hair up so it didn’t take away from the neckline of the dress.
Laverne Cox in Ines Di Santo. I don’t think Laverne has ever looked better. The lightened lob (long bob) is totally working for her. The silver hue worked well against her skin and the dress fit like a glove! A++
Julie Bowen in Jenny Packham. I really liked that Julie went for a shorter hemline. I thought it was still appropriate for the event. I liked the embellishments on the gown, but I do think she could have used a few more accessories.
